The changes brought to financing instruments used for residential housing loans by the Dodd-Frank Act and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau have cast a wide net. Now, in certain transactions where institutional financing is not used, private sellers who carry back a financing instrument with their buyer are subject to the new laws. The options are limited and technical.
